Genesis 49:9 "Judah is a lion's whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?"

Revelation 5:5 "But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to lose its seven seals.""

*In Genesis 49:9 Jacob blesses his son Judah before his death. A "young lion" is strong, energetic, fearless, and courageous. This refers to Judah's early leadership among the tribes, and foreshadows his royal line, leading to David and ultimately Christ.
*Returning from prey implies a lion triumphant after hunting. Then it meant Judah's men led decisive victories. Spiritually it anticipates Jesus' victory over sin & death!
*Both bowing down and lying down implies a lion at rest is powerful yet peaceful; nothing threatens his territory. Under both David and Solomon, Judah enjoyed security & prosperity. This points to the Messiah's future reign of peace- where HIS authority is unquestioned.
*As a (KJV "old") lion who shall rouse him?? No one would disturb a full grown lion. This rhetorical question means no enemy would dare to provoke, attack, or disturb Judah because of their strength to defend their inheritance and lead the nation. The fulfillment belongs to Christ, HIS reign will forever be unstoppable/unchallenged.
* Now, Jesus is the promised King from Genesis 49:9. -> Jacob foretold that royal rule would belong to Judah's line until the ONE came to whom it rightfully belongs!
The lion describes Christ's majesty, irresistible power, and victory over every enemy.
